Mechanicsburg, Pa "A Good Place To Live"
Home is where the heart is. Pliny the Elder Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do... but how much love we put in that action. Mother Teresa Go to foreign countries, and you will get to know the good things one possesses at home. Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe A man travels the world in search of what he needs, and returns home to find it. George Edward Moore
Mechanicsburg really is "A Good Place to Live." It reminds me of the community in which I grew up (Jackson Township, Massillon, Ohio), which has since grown so dramatically, that it remains as it was in my youth, only in memory. Places like Mechanicsburg are "good places to live," because the good people living there make an effort to volunteer to keep the community culture alive. Pages on this site are designed to contribute to, and to honor, those efforts. If you do not have an outlet for your God given interests and abilitities, find one. We need the best of each, for the betterment of all. See the Power of One page for local volunteer opportunities.
From Friday nights at Memorial Stadium to Memorial Day parades, Jubilee Day Celebrations, and the New Year's Eve Wrench Drop; Mechanicsburg is a good place to live because of good people who take the time to keep the community spirit alive, volunteering, looking out for neighbors and finding ways to use individual talents for the betterment of the community.Links are provided here for the local governments, schools, political parties, statistics regarding Mechanicsburg, the local paper, and many local activities, as well as links to national papers. Local Newsaper: Carlisle SentinelLocal papers are a big part of what holds together communities in towns and communities across America. Our local papaer the Sentinel, is a wonderful example of how a newspaper can keep a community aware of what is going on in ever aspect of life locally and personally. For the past few years, I have been privileged to contribute in a small way to their mission by providing information regarding Mechanicsburg events and occasional photographs. If there are issues or events that you think should be covered and are not, contact them at frontdoor@cumberlink.com They are receptive and quite helpful. While news cycles are volatile and their is a necessary editorial selection process as to content and devotion of limited resources and copy space, the more you provide the easier it is for them to make use, follow up and cover a newsworthy event. They also need your patronage to survive. Many complain about the bias and often filtered coverage of the major media, and the lack of local coverage of the larger city papers; but only a small portion of them subscribe or regularly purchase the local papers. The link above is to the home page of their electronic edition, there is a button there to seek a subscription. Please note, my services to them are always without fee, and I post links here merely because I believe in what they do for our community. Providing coverage for the events that make places like Mechanicsburg special, is a service worth supporting....
